For more than twenty years, Built to Desire has designed and built custom kitchens for families across Sydney, the Macarthur region, the Southern Highlands, the Blue Mountains, and the South Coast. Every kitchen is planned, manufactured, and installed by our own team out of our Narellan workshop, with no flat-pack compromises and no off-the-shelf substitutions, just kitchens that fit your home and the way you actually live.
If you are starting to think about a new kitchen, this page is the place to begin. From here you can see the styles we specialise in, the locations we serve, and the materials we use. When you are ready, the next step is a free in-home or showroom consultation with Mark and Angela.
What We Do
We are a custom kitchen design and build company. That means we take a kitchen from a first conversation through to a finished, installed space, with everything in between handled by our team or by trades we coordinate.
Our scope on every kitchen project includes:
- Layout and design with our in-house interior designer
- Custom cabinetry built in our Narellan workshop
- Stone, engineered, and natural benchtop selection and installation
- Splashbacks (tile, mirror, stone, or feature panels)
- Door styles and finishes including polyurethane, thermolaminated, and timber
- Hardware selection (handles, knobs, soft-close mechanisms)
- Appliance integration and panel cabinetry
- Plumbing, electrical, demolition, tiling, and final clean coordination
You only deal with one team. That is the whole point of how we work.
Kitchen Styles We Design and Build
There is no single Built to Desire style. We design for the family, the home, and the way you want the kitchen to feel. The styles below cover most of what we are asked for, and most projects blend elements of several rather than living strictly inside one category.
- Hamptons style kitchen: shaker doors, soft tones, feature islands, and cabinetry detailing that suits both heritage homes and modern family builds.
- Modern Hamptons style kitchen: a cleaner, more contemporary take on Hamptons with simplified detailing, often paired with stone benchtops and matte finishes.
- Coastal Hamptons style kitchen: light, airy, beach-inspired tones and finishes for homes that lean into a relaxed seaside aesthetic.
- Modern kitchen design: handleless or finger-pull profiles, integrated appliances, sleek matte stone, and waterfall edges for a contemporary look.
- White kitchens: timeless, bright, and family-friendly. The most requested colour palette in our Macarthur projects.
- Handleless kitchens: clean lines, integrated J-pulls or finger-pull profiles, and a minimalist look that suits open-plan living.
- Polyurethane kitchens: smooth, hard-wearing, and easy to clean. Polyurethane is one of the most popular finishes for modern Australian family kitchens.
If you are unsure where to start, Angela walks you through the styles at the consultation and helps narrow the brief based on your home’s architecture and your lifestyle.
Kitchen Renovations Across Sydney and Beyond
Most of our work is concentrated in the Macarthur region and out into the Southern Highlands. We have dedicated location pages for the suburbs and regions where we deliver the most projects.

- Kitchen renovations Camden
- Kitchen renovations Narellan
- Kitchen renovations Harrington Park

- Kitchen renovations Gregory Hills
- Kitchen renovations Southern Highlands
- Kitchen renovations Wollongong
We also work on projects across greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains. If you are outside the suburbs above, get in touch and we can confirm the area.
Materials, Benchtops, and Finishes
The materials in your kitchen do most of the long-term work. They are what you touch every day, what shows wear (or hides it), and what determines whether the kitchen still looks right in fifteen years.
For benchtops, we work with engineered stone, natural stone, porcelain slab, and timber depending on the look and the budget. Each has different strengths around heat, scratch, and stain resistance. We have written a separate guide on benchtop options that covers the trade-offs in plain language.
For doors and panels, polyurethane and thermolaminated finishes cover most of what we build. Polyurethane gives a smooth, painted finish in any colour. Thermolaminated is more budget-friendly and holds up well in high-use family kitchens. We also build with timber veneers and shaker profile doors for Hamptons and country styles.
For hardware, our showroom in Narellan holds samples from major suppliers, so you can test soft-close drawers, lift-up door mechanisms, and pull-out pantry systems before committing.
Why Choose Built to Desire
We are a husband-and-wife team. Mark has more than thirty years of building and joinery experience and personally signs off on every kitchen. Angela is a qualified interior designer who handles design, colour, and material selection in-house, so the look of your kitchen is just as resolved as the build.

- All cabinetry built locally in our Narellan workshop
- One team handles design, manufacture, install, and trade coordination
- HIA membership and a long history of repeat referrals across the Macarthur region
- A real showroom you can visit, with real benchtop slabs, finished cabinets, and door samples
Our Design Process
Every Built to Desire kitchen follows the same simple flow.
Free consultation. We meet at your home or showroom. We look at the space, the existing kitchen, and how your family actually uses it.
Design and quote. Angela puts together a layout and material brief. You receive a written quote with everything itemised before any work starts.
Manufacturing. Once you sign off, your cabinetry is built in our Narellan workshop. We coordinate plumbing, electrical, demolition, and tiling around the build timeline.
Installation. Our install team handles the on-site work, usually within two to three weeks of demolition.
Final detailing. We walk through the finished kitchen with you, sort any small adjustments, and clean down before handing over.
